About Monart of Knoxville

What is " The Monart Method "?

The Monart Method has it roots in a 1979 California Arts Council funded research grant that led renowned art educator, Mona Brookes, to create a revolutionary instructional drawing program that has taught hundreds of thousands of school children and educators, alike, over the last two decades. The method involves training students to perceive an "alphabet" of sorts focused on five basic elements of shape families that combine to form all objects. By learning to view the world through these five elements and how to transcribe the information to paper, both "drawers" and "non-drawers" can learn to become artists in their own right and develop their own unique style of realistic interpretation.

Ms. Brookes' method attracted national attention with the publishing of her best seller "Drawing with Children" and her national television appearances. Now in it second edition, "Drawing with Children" has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide and is now used by thousands of educators.

The Monart Method has been lauded by many including Harvard University, The Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center, as well as publications like the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Monart's success led Ms. Brookes to establish a network of 44 independent Monart Licensed schools worldwide. In 2004, spurred by, high market demand, Monart now has a nationwide franchising program that is expected to yield approximately 20 new schools each year.
